OpenWorks Deliver Control System Product Upgrades to Abtus Ltd

Route Scan Upgrade

OpenWorks was awarded an upgrade contract by Abtus Ltd in December 2015.  The upgrade involved a redesign of the electronics and control system of Abtus’ RouteScan product.  RouteScan is a laser based structure scanning system which is part of Network Rail’s standard maintenance tool kit and is also in use on European and Japanese rail networks.

The upgrade had to be completed in a very challenging timescale while ensuring absolute software integrity.  The end of contract handover was carried out on 8th February 2016, in time for Abtus to include the upgrade in a large export order to the Czech Republic.  Sam Parrett, Abtus’ Managing Director, said ‘It was extremely important for Abtus that the work was completed to specification and in time.  The working relationship with OpenWorks was extremely open which allowed Abtus to easily plan production around the upgrade’.

OpenWorks Supports Silvermoor Ltd Launch a New Product

Stable Graze

Silvermoor approached OpenWorks at the end of 2015 with a concept for an equestrian feeding system and had aspirations of launching the product in January. An existing concept had previously been developed but analysis showed it to be too costly, large and heavy; making it inappropriate for the intended end user. OpenWorks quickly developed an elegantly simple new design, reducing the build cost by 50% and the overall size and weight considerably. A sustainable data pack was produced allowing Silvermoor to move through to production.

Ralph Thompson, Silvermoor Director said “We had tried to develop the Stable Graze product previously but could not find a solution that made the product commercially viable. As soon as we engaged with OpenWorks it was clear that they would meet our technical requirements and aggressive project plan. The final design has exceeded my expectations and we are very excited about the future of the product. ”

This project is a great example of the quick response that OpenWorks can offer and the ability to supply professional engineering to product companies looking to expand their range or improve existing systems. If you would like any further information or to discuss your requirements please do not hesitate to contact us.
