Special Projects at OpenWorks Bring Novel Solutions to Life

OpenWorks Engineering has formalised its Special Projects offer following increasing demand for its complex systems engineering capabilities.

OpenWorks Engineering has formalised its Special Projects offer following increasing demand for its complex systems engineering capabilities. The move follows new partnerships with defence primes, including Thales UK, and academic institutions.

Special Projects from OpenWorks will wrap around the company’s proven engineering capabilities, which include complex systems integration, sensor fusion, and the close coupling of dynamic hardware with artificial intelligence, to provide custom solutions that meet the needs of large programmes.

The offer is formalised alongside OpenWorks ‘Products +’ capability which includes the integration of third-party sensors and effectors with the company’s range of intelligent electro-optical sensors for base protection, on-the-move / on-the-halt air defence, protection of critical national infrastructure and naval applications.

One example of OpenWorks’ Special Projects includes the evolution of Vision Pace, the company’s precision optics package for stabilised tracking and targeting. Working with an established partner for an end-user in the Middle East, OpenWorks has substantially adapted its 360° positioner to fit the specific geometry of the host vehicle. The work involves repackaging the optics payloads into a single yolk-style unit for integration with several hundred vehicles.

Other projects will see OpenWorks’ ultra-precise positioning capability deployed to support the pointing of a counter-UAS effector, and enhanced stabilisation capability explored to support satellite communications.
