THE TEAM
CHRIS DOWN

Managing Director

Chris has delivered integrated technical projects as an engineer, a manager and a company director across multiple industry sectors which made him the ideal person to lead this dynamic company.
After graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge, he immediately started his career in Engineering. He now applies his mechanical, electrical and software skills as a Chartered Engineer to successfully complete high profile projects.
Outside engineering, Chris’ main passions are the great outdoors – rock climbing and ski-touring fill all his available spare time.
NEIL ARMSTRONG

Engineering Director

Neil’s efforts focus on providing the engineering team with the support to complete projects on time with full quality.
With nearly 20 years of mechanical system design experience, Neil is capable of both managing focused teams and complex supply chains.
Neil has designed complex armoured systems for the defence industry and has managed prototype, low and highrate production projects.
Neil is married with 3 children and when not spending time with his family enjoys competitively racing motorcycles in UK Rally Raid events.
ALEX WILKINSON

Technical Director

Alex ensures all OpenWorks products are delivered to the highest technical and quality standards. OpenWorks prides itself on its commitment to its customers and SkyWall system performance.
Alex brings his 1st class degree in Aeronautical Engineering and has previously worked for four companies operating in the Oil and Gas and defence industries.
In his spare time, Alex goes on mountaineering adventures around the world and when at home, battles his brother on the squash court.
JAMES CROSS

Marketing Director

James takes responsibility for sales, marketing and business development. He enjoys working with the OpenWorks team to engage with new and existing customers alongside building partnerships with some of the worlds’ leading security and defence businesses.
He has supported high-profile counter-drone test events, predominantly in North America, and was present during the first operational deployments of SkyWall. James continues to help authorities understand how deploying a range of C-UAS technologies, as part of a layered defence, will provide a high level of protection against an ever evolving drone threat.
Outside of his professional life James has a passion for anything automotive. He continues to build and race his own cars and rides his Triumph motorcycle whenever the British weather complies.
ROLAND WILKINSON

Finance Director

Roland takes the lead on all financial and commercial aspects of the business, ensuring the engineering and sales teams have the means to support customer projects while continuing to develop class leading products.
Roland brings a 1st Class degree in Economics and specific experience in the engineering sector, adding financial discipline and a sound commercial framework from which to develop this exciting and innovative business.
Beyond his professional career Roland has a love for motorsport, with successful exploits in a variety of British racing championships. Roland also shares the team’s sense of adventure, enjoying the outdoors although favours exploring the world via ambitious road trips.

TONY TRAPP MBE

Non-Executive Director

Dr Trapp has been instrumental in the formation and success of the subsea technology industry in North East England having been a co-founder of Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD), and the founder of IHC Engineering Business.
More recently Dr Trapp has become a leading figure in the North East offshore industry through his executive chairman role at OSBIT Ltd.
TERRY COURTNEY

Non-Executive Director

Terry Courtney has had a long career as a Financial Director. With many years of experience in the Defence industry, he offers his insights in commercial contracting with Armed Forces in the US, UK and across the world.
